The Dallas Police Department reported that an 11-year-old boy was fatally shot in North Dallas in the early hours of Saturday.

Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene located in the 6400 block of Royal Lane around 2:15 a.m. and discovered that both a woman and the boy had been shot.

Sadly, the 11-year-old boy, identified by his grandmother as Jeremiah Green, passed away at the location, while the woman was transported to a hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

The boy’s grandmother expressed her deep sadness regarding his untimely death in an interview with FOX3. In response, the family has created a GoFundMe page to help with the funeral and memorial costs.

In a statement to the media, the grandmother of the 11-year-old victim expressed that her grandson was a perfect child who adored life and everyone around him.

The Dallas Police Department has confirmed that 30-year-old Jakeith Huntley has been taken into custody for his suspected involvement in the shooting.

The grandmother informed FOX3 that Huntley was the ex-boyfriend of Green’s mother.

Additionally, a local nanny shared her concerns for the safety of children, stating that she always advises them to remain in her presence when outside.

According to court documents, Huntley has been detained before on charges of assault and domestic violence in Denton County.

The police have placed him under arrest for capital murder and remanded him to the Dallas County Jail, but his bail has yet to be set, according to prison records. The inquiry into the shooting incident is still ongoing.
