Boulder police arrest 14-year-old accused of threatening school shooting

The residence of the 14-year-old kid suspected of making threats against Casey Middle School’s continuation celebrations set for Thursday, May 26 was searched by authorities from the Boulder County Sheriff’s office on Monday evening. According to Boulder County officials, the unnamed youngster was arrested at 6 p.m. and charged with felony incitement to destroy life or property, as well as a misdemeanor charge of interfering with educational employees or students.

Police have stepped up security near Casey Middle School in Boulder, Colorado, this morning.

On social media, threats have been made against the institution. No one has said what the threat is really about. The principal of Casey’s school says that it seems to be about Thursday, which is the last day of school in Boulder.

The Boulder Police Department has said that they were told about the threat yesterday. They didn’t say if the threat came before or after the shootings in Texas.

Gabriela Renteria, Casey’s principal, wrote a note home to parents and students informing them of the threat.

“As always, we encourage our community to stay watchful,” Renteria wrote in the letter. Tell a school administration, law enforcement, or a trustworthy adult if you witness something. We recognize that rumors like this, combined with today’s news of a Texas elementary school massacre, can be scary for our students and families. Please let us know if you know of somebody who requires assistance.”

The school will be open on Wednesday, May 25.

Contact Boulder Valley School District security or Boulder Police if you have any information concerning the threats or the individual responsible.
