14-year-old Eric Lanning arrested and charged with murder of Christopher Mateen in south Columbus McDonald’s

The juvenile suspect in a fatal shooting at a McDonald’s in the south of Columbus handed himself in.

According to investigators, 14-year-old Eric Lanning shot and killed 43-year-old Christopher Mateen on South High Street on January 14.

The victim, 43-year-old Christopher Mateen, was shot in the chest and died from his injuries. Reports indicate that he was attempting to locate his stolen vehicle when he was shot.

Just before 9:20 in the morning, officers were sent to the 3500 block of South High Street after receiving reports of a shooting taking place there. Officers located Christopher Mateen, 43 years old, lying in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. Mateen was found lying in the parking lot.

Mateen’s health was deemed to be critical, and he was transported to Grant Medical Center. According to the police, he was pronounced deceased at 10:03 in the morning.

Initial indications indicate that Mateen was attempting to find his stolen vehicle when he was shot, which is what led to his death, as stated by the police.
