15-year-old Omar Espinoza killed in shooting at Montclair Mall
The attack happened at about 8:10 p.m. and allegedly stemmed from an altercation between two people. They separated, and then the shooting happened.

On 02/02/23 at about 2000 hours, Montclair Police Department received several calls regarding shots fired in the east parking lot of Montclair Place.
Upon arrival officers discovered a 15-year-old Omar Espinoza suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local trauma center where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
While on scene, MPD learned an additional male juvenile victim (17 years of age) arrived at a local medical center. He underwent emergency surgery and is expected to survive.
Through investigation it was determined an altercation took place prior to the shooting and stabbing between two parties.
At this point it appears this was an isolated incident and there is no current threat to the public.
No bystanders we’re injured.
This investigation is currently on-going.
