An investigation is underway by the Philadelphia Police Department following a homicide that claimed the life of a teenage victim.
The shooting took place at 12:08 p.m. on Monday in the Crescentville section of the city, on the 6100 block of Algon Avenue.
The victim, a 15-year-old male, was shot ten times, with five bullets hitting his torso and five hitting his leg. Despite being taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center for treatment, he was pronounced dead at 12:41 p.m., according to authorities.
As a precaution, Samuel Fels High School, located close to the crime scene, was briefly put on lockdown due to police activity. However, the lockdown has since been lifted.
The school emphasized in a Facebook update that “at no time was our school building the scene of activity” and that students and staff were asked to remain indoors while the police investigated the situation nearby.
According to the Philadelphia School District, the victim of the shooting was a 15-year-old student at Kensington High School.
Tragically, he is the 17th student to have lost their life this school year, and the 78th student to have been shot.
The police have yet to make any arrests or find any weapons related to the incident.
This latest incident occurred less than two weeks after another fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy who was shot multiple times in Overbrook.
