17-year-old Nykobia Keller shot to death while driving on I-110 North

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported that Nykobia Keller, a 17-year-old girl, was the victim of a targeted attack while driving on I-110 with a friend near the Hollywood Street exit on Saturday night.

At approximately 10:37 p.m., another vehicle pulled up beside them and began shooting, striking Keller, who was driving.

Despite pulling over and calling for medical and police assistance, Keller died at the scene.

The police spokesperson, Sgt. L’Jean McKneely, stated that the passenger was unharmed, and they do not believe the shooting was random.

The police believe that someone was following Keller and her friend onto the interstate, although they did not provide any further details.

As of now, there have been no arrests, and the police do not have any suspects.

According to her aunt, Mary Cash Roberson, Nykobia Keller, who was murdered in the targeted attack on I-110, leaves behind a four-month-old son. Roberson described her niece as a loving and caring young woman who cherished being a mother. She also demanded justice for her niece and said, “they didn’t have to do my baby like that.”

On Sunday afternoon, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome issued a statement expressing her concern over the recent shootings on the interstate, calling them both alarming and saddening. She assured the public that her administration has been working aggressively to address public safety, and the recent reduction in violent crime is a part of the existing strategy to make the community safer. The law enforcement community is committed to working together to apprehend the person or persons responsible for these violent acts.

Broome urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward immediately by calling Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP or contacting BRPD at (225) 389-4869. She also offered her deepest condolences to the families of the victims and reassured the community that they are working diligently to bring the perpetrators to justice.
