According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, a sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot while attempting to serve an arrest warrant in unincorporated Polk City on Tuesday morning.
According to Judd, four deputies were making an attempt to apprehend a suspect at a house located on Foxtown South. The suspect was wanted for failing to appear in court on a charge related to meth.
“They were able to get into the trailer, shots were fired, and one of our very young deputies, 21 years old, died at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, despite the best efforts of Polk Fire Rescue and our great trauma center,” Judd said.
Neither the deputy’s name nor the suspect’s name was made public after the incident.
After the deputy’s family has been informed, according to Judd, the sheriff’s office will give additional details about the incident.
