The suspect in the fatal shooting that occurred on New Year’s Eve, which left one person dead and nine others injured, was taken into custody on Thursday after being released from the hospital where he had been recovering from his injuries.
The Mobile Police Department has made the announcement that they have a suspect in custody in connection with the shooting that took place in the downtown area of Mobile on Saturday evening. The suspect is currently being examined and treated by medical personnel. After receiving medical care, they will be taken to the Mobile Metro Jail where they will be charged with murder.
On December 31, 2022, at approximately 11:14 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Dauphin Street concerning shots fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an unknown subject shot a 24-year- old Jatarious Reives, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officials have stated that 24-year-old Jatarious Reives was killed in a “gang-related” shooting that took place on the evening of December 31st.
During the gunfire, nine other people suffered gunshot wounds.
The victims, ages 17 to 57, were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to severe. In addition, two businesses were also struck by gunfire.
