4 persons dead, another 4 injured in an accident at South Grand Boulevard and Forest Park Avenue

Early Sunday morning at around 2 am, two vehicles were involved in an accident at the intersection of Grand and Forest Parkway.

As per the authorities, one of the vehicles veered off the Grand overpass and landed on Forest Parkway, overturned.

The accident caused injuries to a total of eight passengers, out of which four were pronounced dead on the scene and the remaining four sustained injuries.

The driver of the car that caused the crash left the scene.

The St. Louis Fire Department quickly transported the injured to the hospital, with two people in stable condition, one in a serious condition, and one in critical condition.

Based on a preliminary on-scene investigation and camera footage, the police reported that a 2004 Chevy Impala was travelling southbound on South Grand and veered into the northbound lanes to pass through stopped traffic.

It ran a red light and collided with a 2021 Chevy Tahoe SUV that was heading west on Forest Park, crossing South Grand.

The impact caused the Impala to veer towards the entrance ramp of Forest Park, where it eventually stopped.

Unfortunately, the Tahoe crashed through the bridge guardrail and fell onto the street below, landing upside down on its roof in the westbound lanes of Forest Park.

There were a total of eight occupants in the Chevy Tahoe at the time of the accident.

Among them were three male teenagers, aged 18 and 19, with the 19-year-old behind the wheel, and an 18-year-old woman.

Unfortunately, four of the passengers, one female and three males, were pronounced dead at the scene. The identities and ages of the deceased are currently unavailable. The remaining four occupants, including the driver, were taken to hospitals and are listed in critical but stable condition.

The aftermath of the accident was evident at the scene on Sunday morning, with vehicle debris scattered on the sidewalk on the west side of Grand.

The metal guardrail had been ripped away, and some debris was left on the westbound lanes of the avenue below, to the west of Grand. The Missouri Department of Transportation is considering a plan to level the intersection to enhance pedestrian safety.

Forest Park Avenue has been located below Grand, near Highway 40 (Interstate 64), for several decades.
