40-year-old Steven Rawlins died by suicide inside of Pickerington Ridgeview Junior High School

At approximately 9:55 a.m. on February 2nd, Steven Rawlins, 40-year-old male from Pickerington, died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot while inside of Pickerington Ridgeview Jr. High School. The investigation is on-going.

According to the police chief, No one was hurt as far as students and faculty. Agency was notified of a possible criminal act by a parent at the school.

Officer and a detective were dispatch to the site. The male parent was at the school at that time and was seated in an office.

Detective spoke to the male parent but during the brief conversation male produce a handgun and fired one shot into himself and committed suicide.

No other students, faculty and detective were hurt.

Today, just before 10:00 a.m., our agency was notified by Pickerington Ridgeview Jr. High administration of a possible criminal act that was committed by the step-father of a student.

The possible criminal act did not occur on school property, however the student, student’s mother, and step-father were present at the school.

A school resource officer and a detective were quickly dispatched to the school to investigate the matter. The detective arrived at the school and entered an administrative office where the step-father was seated.

After a very brief conversation, the step-father produced a pistol and fired a single shot into himself. The step-father was pronounced dead at the scene.

The school was immediately placed into lockdown and secured by arriving officers. No students, faculty, or our detective were injured.

Students were evacuated to Pickerington Central High School for unification with their parents. The investigation is on-going at this time.
