At least one person has died after a ‘critical incident’ near 34th and Wells in Milwaukee, according to the fire department MPD Chief Norman

According to the Chief of the Milwaukee Police Department, Jeffrey Norman, on Tuesday morning, officers in Milwaukee shot and killed a 66-year-old man near the intersection of 34th and Wells.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Chief Norman stated that officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of West Wells Street at approximately 7:30 a.m. in response to a report of a “active shooter” in the area.

According to Norman, law enforcement officials discovered the 66-year-old man along with other occupants of the same building hiding out in the basement of a property.

The individual is said to have brandished a gun at the policemen, which prompted one of the officers to fire their weapon, resulting in the man’s death. He was pronounced dead at the spot.

The police officer who shot the individual, who is 38 years old and has been with the MPD for 19 years, will be placed on administrative duty as is standard procedure.

According to Norman, the cop who was with them at the time, a 40-year-old guy with 13 years of service, did not fire a shot at the suspect.

The fatal shooting will be investigated by the Oak Creek Police Department as the primary agency involved.
