9-year-old Jarvis Watts shot to death in the 9400 block of South Wallace, Brainerd neighborhood, South Side on January 1, 2023.

On Jan. 1st, 2023, Chicago Police responded to calls of a child shot, when they arrived they found 9-yr-old Jarvis with a gunshot to the head, neck, and leg.

He was immediately rushed to Comer’s Children Hospital where a short time later he was pronounced dead.

CPD is questioning several adults and minors that was in the home at the time of the shooting, but has no charged anyone, or yet found any foul play. They are still investigating if this was accidental or intentional.

Commander Sean Joyce of the Chicago Police Department informed reporters outside the hospital that the residence is occupied by an extended family and that there were a number of children and adults present at the time the boy was shot. It seemed as though the gunshot had taken place inside the house.

Joyce stated that other adults are currently being questioned by investigators. It was not immediately known who owned the gun or how many times the youngster had been shot. It was not unclear how many times he had been shot. According to him, the firearm has not been found.

A woman who lives on the block mentioned how unusually calm the neighborhood is, so she was taken aback by the sight of so many police cars.
