Residents of the Saint-Elzear-de-Bonaventure area are being told to shelter in place because of an active shooter situation.

On Friday afternoon, residents of Quebec received an emergency alert on their phones, informing them that there was a suspect in the Gaspesie region of eastern Quebec who was armed and dangerous.
After an incident that occurred in the Saint-Elzéar-de-Bonaventure area, a notice was sent out that simply stated, “Avoid the area.” “If you are in the impacted region, seek shelter indoors, lock the doors, stay away from windows, and be sure to follow the advice given by the local authorities,”
The individual, who the police did not identify, was reportedly seen by the authorities at the intersection of Central Road and Rte. De l’Est. He has a height of 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 metres) and weighs close to 80 kilogrammes (82 kgs). He has brown hair and green eyes, and his skin is white. He had on motorcycle boots, a black top with a Jack Daniels emblem on it, and pants on.
Around two in the morning on Friday, a man in his 50s was discovered to be experiencing a mental breakdown in his home in St-Elzear-de-Bonaventure, which is located approximately 900 kilometres northeast of Montreal. This information was provided by Stephane Tremblay, a spokesperson for the Surete du Quebec.
It was eventually determined that the man was armed, and he had been observed, most recently, roaming around in the woods close to the town, which had a population of approximately 400 people.
According to Tremblay, a warning for a critical situation was sent out in error to every single person in the entire province, when in fact it was only supposed to go out to residents of the region where the town is situated.
Anyone who spots the criminal should immediately dial 911.
