A man who is 55 years old has been accused of shooting two Michigan State Police troopers inside a home located in Detroit.
Andre Hardaway, who is from Detroit, was charged on Wednesday with assault with intent to murder and gun-related offenses, according to the Wayne County prosecutor’s office.
On Friday, when the troopers were shot, members of a state police emergency support team and Detroit police officers were present in the home.
Hardaway was also shot and injured before barricading himself inside the residence. He surrendered more than three hours later, as stated by the prosecutor’s office. All of them were treated at hospitals.
The prosecutor’s office emphasized that the defendant committed the alleged actions while law enforcement members were performing their duties lawfully.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy stated that “this is yet another clear example that highlights the dangerousness and uncertainty of their jobs.”
According to Detroit Police Chief James White, the troopers were assisting a Detroit police team that chases fugitives.
Hardaway was remanded in custody on Wednesday with an $850,000 bond, and a probable cause conference has been scheduled for March 22, followed by a preliminary examination on March 29.
