A recreational boat carrying 12 people overturned on the Hudson River in New York City on Tuesday, killing a seven-year-old kid and a woman, 20.

According to police, a boat capsized in the Hudson River on Tuesday afternoon, which prompted a rescue operation by the New York Police Department.

When it capsized, a boat measuring 27 feet in length was carrying at least 12 passengers, including at least one child, according to a representative for the Coast Guard. According to the FDNY, two persons had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.

According to the New York City Police Department, the incident took at around 2:45 p.m. close to Pier 84. The scuba, harbor, aircraft, and emergency medical services units were all put into action. A video from AIR11 showed the boat lying on its side in the water after it had totally capsized, with an NYPD boat circling the craft.

According to sources who spoke with FOX3 News, the boat is thought to be a recreational watercraft that was originally from the state of New Jersey.

According to a representative for the New York Waterway, crew members from two of the company’s ferries helped with the rescue effort.

At 3 p.m. today, NY Waterway reacted to an emergency when a private boat capsized in the Hudson River near Pier 79 Midtown. The Garden State and the John Stevens ferries rescued 9 individuals from the private boat, a spokeswoman said.

Some of the NY Waterway ferry lines were disrupted as a result of the rescue operation, however those routes have already returned to their normal schedules.
