‘Multiple injuries’ after boat explodes at marina in Seneca with 17 people on board
A boat fire in the southwest suburbs injured many individuals on Saturday.
Illinois State Police say that around 4:30 p.m., there was a boat fire on the Illinois River at the Spring Brook Marina in LaSalle County. Conservation police and state troopers went to the scene.
Officials say that 17 people were on the boat, and 13 of them were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
One person with serious injuries was also taken by life flight to a hospital in the area.
Officials say that one of the people hurt was a worker at a marina.
The event occurs during the Memorial Day weekend, when many people are celebrating.
The Department of Natural Resources in Illinois is looking into the matter.
At this time, there is no additional information from the police department.
