Safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field after he was tackled
Safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field after he was tackled, the Buffalo Bills say. “He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition,”

According to the announcement made by the league, the 24-year-old Damar Hamlin is currently in serious condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
At Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, a Monday night game between two of the NFL’s best teams that started out like a playoff quickly turned scary for one of the players.
During the first quarter of his team’s game against the Bengals, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, 24, made a typical tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, rose up, and then fell down after taking a few steps. He required the assistance of an ambulance.
With roughly six minutes left in the first quarter, play was stopped, and trainers quickly started working on Hamlin.
According to the ESPN game broadcast, the situation changed when Hamlin received CPR. A large number of his colleagues and the players from the opposition squad gathered and wished the injured competitor well.
He was subsequently taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center after being driven off the field.
Although the details of what happened and his condition weren’t immediately made known during the Monday Night Football simulcast, referees and both head coaches decided to briefly halt play around 23 minutes after Hamlin was injured. Back in their respective locker rooms, both teams.
After further investigation, the Buffalo Bills determined that Hamlin experienced a cardiac arrest as a direct result of the hit.
According to a tweet sent by the Bills, “Damar Hamlin experienced a heart attack during a hit in our game vs the Bengals.” After his heartbeat was brought back on the field, he was taken to the UC Medical Center for additional testing and treatment. He is currently under sedation, and his current condition is categorized as critical.
The NFL stopped the game for the night, but it wasn’t clear right away when it would start again. The league also said that his health was very bad.
The NFL wrote in a statement:
“Tonight’s Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapsed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced.
Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.
Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association which is in agreement with postponing the game.”
Buffalo picked University of Pittsburgh player Hamlin in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
