In a startling change of events, it has been stated that Congressman Lee Zeldin was assaulted while giving a speech for a political campaign.

On Thursday night, Congressman Lee Zeldin came under attack at a political gathering in Perinton. In New York State, Zeldin is the Republican’s nominee for governor.

According to accounts provided by witnesses, Zeldin was delivering a presentation on the topic of bail reform at the VFW on Macedon Center Road when a guy entered the auditorium, began shouting, “wrestled with him a bit,” and then “pulled a blade out.”

AMVETS national Director Joe Chenelly managed to keep the identity of the accused attacker hidden. He was reportedly brought into arrest, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

A witness who was present after the attack and saw Zeldin afterwards stated that Zeldin was unharmed and resumed his performance as soon as it was ended.

According to Zeldin, the suspect in the attack is currently being held by police officials. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment and could not be reached.

In the general elections in November, Zeldin will compete against Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who currently enjoys a significant lead in the polls.
