Minnesota congresswoman OK after assault in DC apartment building, office says

Rep. Angie Craig is “physically okay” after she was assaulted in the elevator of her apartment building in Washington, D.C., her staff said in a statement.

In a statement from her staff, Representative Angie Craig (D-Minn.) is reported to be “physically okay” following an assault in the elevator of her apartment building in Washington D.C. on Thursday.

According to the statement by Nick Coe, Craig’s chief of staff, there is no indication that the attack was politically motivated.

The statement reports that Craig successfully defended herself from the attacker and sustained bruising, but is otherwise in good physical condition.

The assault took place around 7:15 a.m., as stated in the statement. Representative Craig immediately called 911, and the attacker fled the scene, according to Coe.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
