The victims are Tyler and Sarah Schmidt, both 42, and their six-year-old daughter Lulu Schmidt. The couple’s 9-year-old son Arlo survived the attack and is unharmed, Cedar Falls Mayor Rob Green wrote on Facebook on Friday night.

Tyler and Sarah Schmidt, both 42, and their 6-year-old daughter Lulu Schmidt are the people who died. In a Facebook post on Friday night, the mayor of Cedar Falls, Rob Green, said that the couple’s 9-year-old son, Arlo, is safe and survived the attack.

Friday morning at 6:23 a.m., police arrived on the scene.

Green said on Facebook that he is “devastated” and that he knew Sarah well because she was employed by the Cedar Falls Public Library.

Officers were able to locate Anthony Sherwin, 23, from Nebraska, who had shot himself in the head and was later pronounced dead. The body of Sherwin was discovered somewhere between 11 and 11:30 in the morning.

There does not appear to be any relationship or motivation between the perpetrator and the victims of the crime. Everyone else who was staying at the campground has already left.

Despite the fact that there is no longer a risk to the general public, the park will continue to be closed until further notice.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety has stated that this is an active investigation, and that at this time they will not be providing any other details.

In addition, Governor Kim Reynolds delivered a statement on Friday on the tragedy that took place.

“I’m horrified by the shooting this morning at Maquoketa Caves State Park and devastated by the loss of three innocent lives. As we grieve this unimaginable tragedy, Kevin and I pray for the victims’ family members and the law enforcement officers who responded to the scene. We ask Iowans to do the same”, Reynolds said.
