The Dallas Police Department wishes to express its deepest condolences to the family of Officer Jacob Arellano, who passed away this morning from injuries he suffered in a crash.

On October 11, 2022, at approximately 11:48 p.m., Officer Arellano was driving his SUV in the northbound lanes of Spur 408 near Kiest Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle driven in the opposite direction, according to the preliminary findings of the investigation. He was on his way to work to begin his shift.
The off-duty officer, Officer Arellano, was driving in the middle of the three lanes when a sedan traveling southbound in the northbound lanes collided with the officer’s vehicle head-on.
As a result of the collision, the officer’s vehicle was forced into the right lane, where it was collided with by a tractor trailer.
The officer’s vehicle lost control and rolled several times before coming to a stop on the right shoulder of Spur 408. The officer was found to be in critical condition and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The wrong-way driver was in bad shape and taken to a nearby hospital.
At this point, the preliminary investigation shows that the driver who went the wrong way may have been drunk. The crash is still being looked into.
Officer Arellano, 25, has been a member of the Dallas Police Department since June of 2019. He was assigned to Northwest Patrol Division, 1st watch. Funeral arrangements are pending. Officer Arellano is survived by his parents, girlfriend and infant child. Officer Arellano is also survived by his brother, also a Dallas Police Officer.
