The Buffalo Bills just shared some positive news on Damar Hamlin’s status … saying he remains in the ICU in critical condition, but has been showing “signs of improvement.”

According to a statement released by the Buffalo Bills at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, Damar Hamlin is still considered to be “in critical condition with signs of progress seen yesterday and overnight.” According to the Bills, Hamlin “is likely to remain under intensive care as his health care team continues to monitor and treat him.”

The Bills second-year safety suffered into cardiac arrest on Monday evening in Cincinnati, while his team was playing the Bengals in Week 17 of the NFL season. The game was between Buffalo and Cincinnati.

According to the full statement that was released by the Bills, it went as follows: “Damar remains in the ICU in serious condition with signs of improvement noticed yesterday and overnight.” It is anticipated that he will remain under the supervision of his health care team in intensive care while they continue to monitor and treat him.

After making the tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, Hamlin briefly rose up to fix his facemask before collapsing on the field, which triggered a heart attack in the player. Before taking Hamlin to a nearby hospital, medical staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him and provided him with oxygen.

The game was eventually stopped, and it has not been continued after then.

The Hamlin family expressed their profound gratitude for all the love and support given to Damar during this trying time in a statement sent through Hamlin’s agency on Tuesday. “The prayers, nice comments, and money from admirers around the nation have truly touched us. We also wish to thank the committed emergency responders and medical staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for their superb care of Damar. Being a member of the Buffalo Bills organization and receiving their support makes us feel really fortunate. We also want to express our gratitude to Coach (Zac) Taylor and the Bengals for all they have done. Your kindness and caring truly mean a lot to us. Please continue to pray for Damar. As soon as we obtain updates, we will publish them.”

The Bills picked Pittsburgh native Hamlin in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he is already in his second season with the team. This season, he has played in 15 games, making 13 starts. As of Monday night, he had 91 tackles (six for loss), 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
