He was only 54 years old.
While the cause of his death is still unknown, Jolicoeur had been open about his battle with congestive heart failure in recent years.
Trugoy, as he was known while performing, was a rap legend and a member of the musical trio De La Soul.
The group was well-known for their music and appearances on hit MTV programs in the 80s and 90s. Along with other members Maseo and Posdnuos, the trio made many hit songs together, including “Feel Good Inc” with the band Gorillaz.
In 1988, the three Long Island natives formed the group that quickly made a name for themselves in the hip-hop world.
At that time, rap was politically charged and often controversial, with groups like Public Enemy giving a voice to Black communities, according to the New York Times.
This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
