According to the Madera police department, multiple officers responded to the area of 4th Street and Gateway Drive on Friday morning after receiving reports of a probable active shooter situation in which students were walking to school.

Earlier this morning, Patrol Officers, Detectives, SIU (Special Investigation Unit), and SRO’s (School Resource Officers) all responded to the area of 4th St and Gateway for a possible active shooter situation.

A man was seen firing what was believed to be a firearm, repeatedly in the area and was last seen entering a nearby hotel.

During the search, Officers located Dennis Ray Vaughn in the hotel’s stairwell armed with a pellet gun.

The investigation revealed Vaughn discharged the pellet gun at different locations near the hotel where students were walking to school causing them to fear being shot at by a real gun.

Luckily no one was injured, as Vaughn was arrested and booked at the Madera County Jail.
