On Monday, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a 22-year-old father, Diamonte Oiy’Shawn Haithcoats, in connection with the shooting death of a pregnant woman, Shaniyah Monet Rodriguez, who was seven months pregnant with Haithcoats’ child.
The murder occurred on Feb. 2 in the Brannon Hill condominium community where Rodriguez and Haithcoats lived together in the victim’s mother’s home.
Rodriguez was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to her head. Haithcoats was taken into custody without incident outside a barber shop on Memorial Drive in Decatur and is being charged with malice murder.
Adrienne Rodriguez, the victim’s mother, is heartbroken over her daughter’s loss and is hopeful that her grandchild makes a full recovery.
Haithcoats is currently being held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail.
