East High School student Luis Garcia dies 3 weeks after shooting
Luis Garcia, 16, was shot in his car outside the school on Feb. 13.

A family representative has confirmed that a student from East High School, who was shot while sitting in his car outside the Denver school last month, passed away on Wednesday.
Luis Garcia, who was 16 years old and played on the varsity soccer team, was a junior at East.
The incident occurred on February 13th when Garcia was shot in his car near East 17th Avenue and City Park Esplanade. Garcia’s family has described him as an exceptionally hardworking student with good grades who held several jobs.
In an interview with FOX3 last month, his brother Santos Garcia stated that Luis always helped their family in any way he could.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched to assist Garcia’s family with medical expenses.
After the shooting, the Denver Police Department stated that they had two Denver Public Schools students in custody, neither of whom attended East.
However, the individuals were not identified because they were minors.
A 17-year-old was being investigated for unlawful possession of a firearm, and a 16-year-old was being investigated for auto theft and felony eluding, but neither was charged with a crime related to the shooting, as per the police.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Denver police reported that the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing and no new information is available at present.
