Eight people were injured in a shooting at a Martin Luther King Jr. event in Fort Pierce, Florida, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Eight people have reportedly been injured in a shooting at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event in Fort Pierce, Florida.
According to the public information officer Tonya Woodworth, one of the people who was shot was in critical condition, and four other people were injured while they were attempting to flee the scene.
She stated that the shooting took place on Monday evening at Ilous Ellis Park, which was having a Martin Luther King Jr. Day auto show and “family fun day” at the time, according to the website of the city.
According to the flyer for the event, the event featured a DJ, various activities for children, and an afternoon of judging for a vehicle show. It claims that the sheriff’s department was responsible for providing security at the time.
The sheriff’s office would not comment on whether or not any suspects have been apprehended or whether or not they have identified a possible motivation for the crime.
