Eldridge Vandrew Smith found shot to death inside vehicle in Grove Street

Officers identified one male individual who suffered a gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On Saturday, January 28, 2023, at approximately 9:41 p.m., Charlottesville police officers responded to the 1100 block of Grove Street for a shots fired report.

Officers found a four-wheel-drive vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Grove Street when they arrived. One adult male was found to be inside the vehicle when the incident occurred. He had sustained several gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled official at the scene.

Eldridge Vandrew Smith, 36 years old, a resident of Charlottesville, was identified as the victim of the shooting. The members of Mr. Smith’s immediate family have been notified.

After arriving at the scene to collect evidence, the detectives and forensic specialists from Charlottesville discovered many bullet casings while conducting their investigation into the incident.
