The father Darwin Reyes was taken into custody after his son Mason Reyes, who was five years old at the time, was discovered unresponsive in a bathroom with blood and vomit all over him.

According to a news statement from the Los Angeles Police Department released Tuesday, Darwin Reyes was detained by detectives from the Juvenile Division-Abused Child Section late on Monday night in connection with the alleged murder of his son, Mason Reyes.

Just before 2:30 pm on Monday, police were summoned to Darwin’s East Hollywood home in response to a report of a 5-year-old boy who was not breathing.

“When the police officers arrived to the residence, they found blood and vomit in the bathroom and the bedroom respectively. When the cops entered the bathroom, they found the victim unconscious and not breathing while they were in the bathtub. The officers made attempts to assist the victim and called for the assistance of paramedics “according to the press release.

Mason was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later declared dead after being treated by paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department. The boy’s father was identified as the suspect following the initial inquiry by the Juvenile Division-Abused Child Section.

Darwin, 32, was arrested for wilful abuse of a kid and taken to the Metropolitan Jail Division. The amount of his bail was $1,000,000. It is unknown if he has secured legal counsel to speak on his behalf.

Guadalupe Reyes, the grandpa of the young kid, is said to live in the same building as Darwin, but he told FOX3 that he was not at home at the time of the incident and that he is unsure of what took place.

Mason was Darwin’s child from a prior relationship, according to Guadalupe, who also disclosed that his girlfriend and two young girls were not at home when the boy was killed.

The inquiry is still ongoing. Anyone with information on this inquiry is urged to contact Detective Patterson or the Abused Child Section of the Juvenile Division at (213) 486-0577. Calls should be routed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 on the weekends and outside of office hours (1-877-527-3247).
