According to police, a Sansom Park officer was accidentally shot during an active shooter training exercise inside the David K Sellars Elementary school in Forest Hill, Texas.

According to reports, a Sansom Park police officer was shot while participating in an active shooter training session at an elementary school on Saturday afternoon. The officer is currently in serious condition.

According to the Everman Police Chief Craig Spencer, the Forest Hill police department received a call at approximately 2:12 pm stating that an officer had been injured during a “training mishap.”

According to reports, the officer was wounded with a live round before being transported by ambulance to JPS Hospital, where she is currently in critical condition. Her identity has not been made public at this time.

Spencer indicated that the Forest Hill Police Department has entered into a contract with a third party training provider in order to conduct the school-based active shooter training at the David K Sellars Elementary School. He mentioned that numerous other departments, like the Sansom Park Police Department, took part in the training session.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted jointly by the Texas Rangers and the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Spencer, there was never any intention for there to be any live fire training, so it will be one of the things that they investigate.
