Update: Late Wednesday night, two individuals were apprehended and taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in a fatal shooting that occurred at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas.
The incident resulted in the death of one person and the injury of three others.
At a news briefing, Interim El Paso Police Chief Peter Pacillas stated that while the mall would continue to be treated as an active crime scene for at least another day, there was no longer any threat to the public.
According to Pacillas, police received multiple 911 calls at around 5:05 p.m. MST reporting gunfire near the food court of the Cielo Vista Mall.
An off-duty officer who was present at the mall responded to the situation and apprehended one of the suspects by 5:08 p.m.
This incident of shooting at the mall on Wednesday night evoked memories of a similar event that occurred in 2019 when a gunman attacked a Walmart located adjacent to the Cielo Vista Mall, resulting in the death of 23 individuals, which was a traumatic event for many residents of El Paso.
Original Story:
On Wednesday, just after 5 p.m., a shooting was reported in the food court and Dillard’s Department Store at Cielo Vista Mall in East El Paso.
After a shooting at Cielo Vista Mall, one individual has passed away and three others have been transported to the hospital.
According to police officials, one individual has been taken into custody, and law enforcement is currently in pursuit of another person. However, no information regarding the description of the wanted individual was provided.

According to the police spokesperson, they have reason to believe that a weapon has been found and secured.
Two individuals in critical condition were received by officials at University Medical Center.
While the exact location of the shooting has not been confirmed, police officials believe it occurred in the vicinity of the food court.
As a precautionary measure, police are working to evacuate employees and shoppers from the mall.
Additionally, a family reception center will open at Burges High School’s main gym, situated at 7800 Edgemere.
If anyone has been unable to contact their loved ones, they are advised to report to Burges High School.
The parking lot saw a large police presence and ambulances arriving on Thursday afternoon.
While there are unconfirmed reports of at least one fatality and four people injured in the incident, the El Paso Police Department sent a text alert at 5:49 p.m. MST stating that the scene was still active.
According to sources from El Paso Matters, two people were admitted to University Medical Center in critical condition.
Individuals are advised to stay clear of the affected area until further notice.
