Jimmy Sohns, who was the lead singer of the 1960s band The Shadows of Knight, died of a stroke.

The song “Gloria,” which Jimmy and his band performed and which became a top 10 success in 1966, is the one for which Jimmy and his band are most recognised. Not to be confused with the hit song of the same name by Laura Branigan from the 1980s, Jimmy and company’s renowned chorus spelled out the name… G-L-O-R-I-A.

The Illinois band stated earlier in the week that Jimmy was hospitalized after having a stroke; however, his daughter informed on Friday that he had passed away.

Jimmy and a friend still managed the band’s social media profiles, uploading old photos from the band’s heyday.

Sohns was only a teenager when his band’s song “Gloria” became a hit. He and his bandmates, who were all high school friends from the suburbs of Chicago, joined together to play their own brand of British blues, a la The Yardbirds and The Rolling Stones.

As recently as 2016, the remaining members were still performing live shows together.
