Heavy police presence at New Hanover High School
New Hanover, Williston and Grego High School on lockdown after reports of an active shooter

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, an active shooter call made to 911 prompted law enforcement to respond to New Hanover High School this morning.

Heavy law enforcement presence at NHHS is due to what authorities believe was a “swatting call,” meaning a bogus report of an active shooter designed to elicit a SWAT team response.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says there is no evidence of gunfire and no injuries.
Williston and Gregory are also on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. Families will be notified when the lockdown is lifted.
Officers and detectives are currently on scene conducting an investigation.
Police ask public to please stay out of the area.
This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
