The Horse Whisperer author Nicholas Evans passed away at the age of 72 after a heart attack, according to his representatives.

He was a bestselling novelist in addition to working in newspapers and television during his career after being born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

His debut book, The Horse Whisperer, which was released in 1995, has been translated into 36 different languages and has sold more than 20 million copies globally.

Hollywood legend Robert Redford adapted the narrative for the big screen in 1998, starring as the story’s main character. In her breakthrough performance, Scarlett Johansson played young rider Grace MacLean.

Mr. Evans began his career in the media industry as a journalist in the 1970s, working for the Evening Chronicle in Newcastle upon Tyne. Later, he transitioned into the radio industry.

After eating some deadly mushrooms in September 2008, Mr. Evans came dangerously close to passing away. As a result, he required a kidney transplant, and his daughter generously gave him the organ that would save his life.

His representatives issued the following statement: “United Agents are very sad to inform the unexpected death of the acclaimed and best-selling novelist Nicholas Evans, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday of this week at the age of 72 after suffering a heart attack.”
