On Saturday, a woman who was 28 years old was found dead in her cell at the Mesa County Detention Facility.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said that during a regular security check at 2:30 p.m., the inmate was found to be unresponsive. Even though EMS was called and medical staff and deputies tried to save her life, she did not make it.
An inquiry on the cause of death is currently underway.
The person’s next of kin has been notified. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death and release the person’s name when appropriate.
