JAPANESE triathlete Tsudoi Miyazaki was fatally killed on Wednesday after being struck by a car in France.

The Japan Triathlon Union is very sad to say that 25-year-old Japanese triathlete Tsudoi Miyazaki died yesterday, July 27, in France when she was hit by a car while riding her bike near Orléans.

After competing at the Pontevedra World Cup last weekend, Ms. Miyazaki went on an individual training camp at a triathlon abroad base in France.

World Triathlon and the Japan Triathlon Union extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends, coaches, and teammates of Ms. Miyazaki. The entire Triathlon Family is praying of you during this time of tragedy.

Toyama City, which is located in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, is where Ms. Miyazaki was born. She began competing in triathlons while in college, and in 2019 she won the Japan U23 Triathlon Championships. It was anticipated that she would develop into a leading and high-performing triathlete in the future, with the ultimate goal of winning medals at the 2024 Olympics in Paris and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Local authorities are looking into how the accident happened, and our staff in the area are working through this tragedy. JTU sent people right away to France to help the people at the training base deal with the situation.
