The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Jason Jones, was discovered hiding in his home early on Friday morning, just across the street from one of the crime scenes, according to the authorities.

After being apprehended by a SWAT team and transferred to a hospital in Lincoln, he was discovered to have severe burns.

Around three in the morning, emergency personnel responded to reports of an explosion at a residence in rural Laurel, according to the Nebraska State Highway Patrol.

One individual had died inside the burning house when they arrived.

As they extinguished this fire, first responders were notified of a second fire just three blocks away, where three more individuals were discovered dead.

Janet Twiford, 86, Gene Twiford, 85, Dan Twiford, 55, and Michelle Ebeling, 53, have been named as the victims.

Colonel John Bolduc of the Nebraska State Patrol stated that the incident has caused “indescribable sorrow” in the small hamlet of 1,000 people.
