A Deputy has been shot after responding to a domestic violence call south of Laurel.

A Jones County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been shot and wounded at a incident scene on Riley Johnson Road in the Johnson Community this evening.

This is an active scene and the suspected shooter may still be in the residence.

The deputy has been successfully rescued and transported by EMSERV to SCRMC for treatment. He is currently awake, alert, and oriented.

Sheriff Joe Berlin, JCSD deputies, and multiple additional law enforcement agencies are on scene along with EMSERV and Fire-Rescue units.

Residents are advised to avoid the area.

No suspects have been identified, and there has been no information immediately released regarding any arrests.
