A 70-year-old Katherine Perkins was stabbed in the groin by a sailfish while she and two friends were boating off the coast of Florida.

Authorities said that a sailfish that was being reeled in by a group of people on a boat off the coast of Florida allegedly attacked a woman in her 70s and stabbed her with its bill. The sailfish weighed approximately 100 pounds and leaped out of the water during the attack.

The sailfish attacked the woman from Arnold, Maryland in the groin with its pointed bill on Tuesday while she was standing in the boat, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The women’s friends put pressure on the wound, and then they took her to Stuart to get medical help.

According to the report from the sheriff’s office, the woman told deputies that the incident took place so quickly that she was unable to respond to it due to the lack of time.

Sailfish are some of the fastest fish in the ocean. Like swordfish, they have long, pointed bills that make them easy to spot.
