The police in Lagos state have arrested and detained one of its officers for shooting a civilian identified as Gafaru Buraimoh, dead at Happy Land Estate, Ajah

One of the police officers in Lagos state has been arrested and is being held because he shot and killed a civilian named Gafaru Buraimoh at Happy Land Estate, Ajah, on December 7.

The young man who was killed was reportedly on his way to acquire petrol when he was shot dead, according to an eyewitness who posted videos taken at the scene. It has not yet been determined what led up to the shooting incident. She also posted a video showing police officers in patrol vans shooting tear gas at individuals who were protesting the killing of the young man. She said the policemen were firing at people who were protesting the homicide.

The officer who was responsible for the gunshot, an Inspector of Police, was immediately disarmed and has been arrested while a full-scale investigation has begun, according to a statement that was made by the state police public relations officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

He added that the Lagos State Police Command through the Area Commander, Elemoro and Divisional Police Officer, Ajah has subsequently alerted and established contact with the family.

“The Command, while commiserating with the familv of the deceased over the avoidable and most unfortunate incident, gives assurances that the already commenced investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting will be brought to a speedy and conclusive end, while equally ensuring that justice is served.” the statement read
