The Las Vegas Valley was hit by a monsoon storm on Thursday night, which dumped heavy rain across the valley and caused flash flooding along the Las Vegas Strip and in numerous well-known casinos.

The National Weather Service issued both a Flash Flood Warning and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of the valley, including downtown Las Vegas and North Las Vegas.

On Thursday evening, shortly before 10 o’clock local time, a wind gust of 59 miles per hour was recorded at Harry Reid International Airport. However, the Las Vegas Strip reported a wind gust of 71 miles per hour when the storm moved through the city.

The monsoon storm that occurred on Thursday night resulted in an official measurement of 0.32 inches of rainfall at the airport. Nevertheless, the NWS reports that there were a few locations in Las Vegas that received more than an inch of precipitation.

The Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Department has stated that they have responded to a variety of calls connected to the storm and have warned residents to avoid driving through flooded highways.

Videos that were uploaded on social media showed a parking garage on the Las Vegas strip that had been flooded, as well as standing water along Las Vegas Boulevard, water rushing through a screen at the Circa Resort & Casino, and water coming through a ceiling at Caesars Palace.
