A TEENAGER Levy Caverley has died from his injuries after sand collapsed on him and his sister at a New Jersey beach.

A teenager died after sand collapsed on him and his sister at a beach in Toms River, New Jersey

At approximately 4:09 PM police and EMS were dispatched to the beach entrance near Seaview Road on the barrier island for reports of juveniles trapped in the sand as it collapsed around them while digging. Multiple police units, EMS are currently on scene. Please do not respond to the area.

Levy Caverley and his 17-year-old sister, Sarah, were visiting the beach in Toms River, NJ with their family on Tuesday.

The family had come to visit from Maine.

The two siblings had used frisbees to dig a ten-foot hole in the sand before it collapsed on them, Mayor Mo Hill said.

Emergency crews at the scene were able to rescue the girl, but Levy Caverley, who was buried under the rubble, did not survive.

Rescue workers are currently working to recover the body of Mr. Caverley from the collapse.

Also assisting on scene are Toms River EMS, Toms River Fire Companies, Toms River Fire Technical Rescue Team, Lavallette Fire Company, Lavallette Police Department, Lavallette Public Works, Seaside Heights Fire Company, Toms River Police Detective Bureau, Ocean County Sheriff CIU, and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
