Nicholas Sansbury Smith mourn the passing new in Facebook post, “Today I have extremely sad news about my good friend, Author Matthew Mather. Last week he passed away in a tragic car accident. I’m still in shock, and finding the right words has not been easy. I will remember Matt as a confidante, mentor, and great friend. Our life paths seemed to align with both of us starting our author careers within weeks of each other, forming Discover Scifi, and becoming first-time dads. Many joys were shared as well as dad jokes.
Whenever we spoke or saw each other, Matt would come up with new ideas for his work as a writer and entrepreneur. He always pressed the status quo, striving to be better in everything he did in business, and as a family man. His breakthrough novel, Cyberstorm helped define our genre almost a decade ago. He strived to always create sprawling stories with realistic characters we can all relate to. In a lot of ways, Matt lived his own life with all the elements of a great story. He touched so many lives, making friends wherever he went. He was an adventurer, traveler, entrepreneur, and gentle soul with a brilliant mind. He loved his family and would speak of them often. But more important than all was the fact he was such a devoted and loving father and husband. My heart breaks for his wife, and two young children. I will do everything I can to help keep his legacy alive and hope you will help me. The best way to do that is to share his novels with your friends and family. More on that soon. Much love to you Matt, you were one of a kind, my friend”.
