McKeesport Police officer Sean Leonard Sluganski killed during domestic dispute situation at Grandview Avenue

Officials say the officers were responding to a domestic situation in McKeesport when a man opened fire on the officers.

FOX3 has been informed by sources that while responding to a domestic dispute in the city of McKeesport, two police officers were shot. One of those officers, Sean Leonard Sluganski has sadly passed away as a result of injuries.

It is uncertain what condition the suspect is in.

Other McKeesport Police officer Chuck Thomas was shot in the face/neck area and in the leg. He is in critical condition at the hospital.

This incident happened on Grandview Avenue, specifically in the 1300 block.

According to the police, they were informed of a person who was experiencing a mental health crisis, and they were advised that the individual may be armed.

After leaving the house, the suspect, who was already known to the police, was located by two officers of the McKeesport Police Department along Grandview Avenue. The suspect then started shooting at the police officers, wounding one of them and killing another before running away.

Police said the person met a third officer nearby at the corner of Versailles and Patterson, where they both fired their guns at each other before being shot.

Both the injured officer and the suspect are in stable condition.

The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to a request for assistance in McKeesport for an officer-involved shooting.

At 12:11 p.m. today, McKeesport Police Department officers were dispatched to a domestic-related disturbance call in the 1400 block of Wilson Street. When officers arrived, they learned that the subject had been acting aggressively to family members. The subject walked away before officers could speak with him. A family member warned officers that he may be armed. The subject walked up to Grandview Avenue and officers encountered him in the 1300 block of Grandview Avenue. He suddenly produced a handgun and shot the two McKeesport officers. One officer was transported to UPMC McKeesport where he was pronounced deceased. The second officer was flow to a Pittsburgh area trauma center where he is listed in stable condition.

The subject continued on foot around the corner where he encountered a third McKeesport officer at the intersection of Versailles Ave at Patterson Street. The subject again produced a handgun and fired at the third officer. The officer and the subject exchanged gunfire, during which the subject was wounded and was able to be taken into custody. The subject was transported to a Pittsburgh area trauma center where he is currently listed in stable condition.

The Allegheny County Police Department is currently working with the District Attorney’s office to prepare the criminal complaint to charge the suspect.

The Allegheny County Police Department, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pennsylvania State Police will be providing coverage for the City of McKeesport during this time.

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the City of McKeesport has lost a police officer in the line of duty. During our department’s response to a reported domestic incident, one officer was fatally shot and another was seriously wounded.

Because to police action in the area, the Facebook page for the McKeesport Area School District states that all of the district’s schools and buildings are currently under lockdown.
