During a confrontation with a suspect on Monday night, a Miami-Dade police officer Cesar Echaverry is in critical condition after being shot in the head during the incident.

Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez of Florida has just confirmed. “As a Miami-Dade resident, I am saddened to hear about the loss of one of our Miami-Dade Police heroes who was shot last night”.

According to sources who spoke to local media, the suspect managed to flee the scene while he was held hostage inside a vehicle on Northwest 62nd Street and 17th Avenue.

Shortly after evacuating the scene, the vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicles, which had two occupants when it occurred.

Following the collision, there was a gunfight that ended with the suspect being gunned down by the police.

During the exchange of gunfire, a member of the Robbery Intervention Detail sustained a head wound and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Initially, it was reported that the officer had passed away, but later, the police department stated that “One of our officers was shot during an incident and was transferred to Ryder Trauma Center in serious condition.”

The officer’s condition was characterized as being critical.

Within a few hours of the event, hundreds of law enforcement officers representing departments from all over South Florida had gathered outside Jackson, with some displaying obvious signs of emotion. Steadman Stahl, president of the police union for Miami-Dade County, admitted, “It’s not looking good.”

The detective, whose identity had not been made public by the police department as of the wee hours of Tuesday morning, is in his late 20s.

The suspect, who has also not been recognized, was killed by gunfire, and his dead body remained at the site in Liberty City after it happened.

The suspect’s white automobile had reportedly been linked to an earlier armed robbery at a convenience store in Dania Beach, according to sources. Later, investigators located the white automobile at a Miami Springs motel.
