Slidell Police have reported that a 41-year-old man from Slidell has been apprehended in connection to a double homicide that took place on Saturday morning (March 4) and shocked a North Shore neighborhood.
Two men, who are believed to be brothers, were fatally shot in the 3100 block of Terrace Avenue shortly before 11 a.m., according to investigators.
The victims have been identified as Miguel Doucette, 47, and Kerry Doucette, 36, by St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston.
One of the brothers died at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
Slidell police announced the arrest of Mario Andre Scott, 41, less than five hours after the incident at around 4 p.m. in Jefferson Parish with the assistance of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the FBI New Orleans Gang Task Force.
Scott was initially arrested on a fugitive warrant but is set to be transferred to St. Tammany Parish where he will face charges of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to Slidell police, the victims apparently confronted Scott regarding a prior altercation he had with their father. Scott opened fire on the brothers, resulting in their deaths.
Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal says, “This is a senseless tragedy that never should have happened in our community. Hopefully, the victims’ family can find some peace knowing this killer is off our streets and behind bars. I’m proud of the effort of all those involved with this case. Multiple law enforcement agencies worked together, very quickly, to get this suspect in-custody.”
According to police spokesman Daniel Seuzeneau, the victims were discovered outside a residence, marking the first two homicides of the year in Slidell.
Fandal expressed condolences to the victims’ family, stating that a tragedy of this nature impacts the entire community. Fandal also expressed confidence in the speedy administration of justice in this case.
