Milwaukee Police Officer Peter Jerving shot and killed near 14th and Cleveland
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Terrell I. Thompson and the officer was identified as 37-year-old Peter Jerving

A Milwaukee police officer, aged 37 with four years of service, was fatally shot Tuesday morning while attempting to arrest a suspect in an armed robbery, according to police.
The identity of the suspect has been confirmed as 19-year-old Terrell I. Thompson, while the fallen officer was Peter Jerving, according to police. In the previous year, Officer Jerving was honored with a life-saving award from the MPD for his bravery in providing medical aid to a shooting victim.

According to police, Thompson shot Officer Jerving during a physical altercation with another officer. The wounded officer returned fire. Both Thompson and the officer were shot, and it is uncertain if Thompson’s fatal gunshot was self-inflicted or a result of the officer’s shots.
The West Good Hope Road armed robbery took place Monday night, according to police.
During the pursuit of the suspect, one of the officers caught up and a struggle ensued.
The suspect then allegedly shot an officer with a handgun. The officers returned fire and the suspect was hit. The officer, who was 37 years old with four years of service at the department, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later passed away.
The suspect died at the scene, and it is unclear if the fatal wound was self-inflicted or from an officer’s shot.
“One of our finest, who put on that uniform, put on that badge, went into work last night and paid the ultimate sacrifice for protecting our community. Milwaukee, we need your prayers, we need your support,” said Chief Norman.
