A BRITISH tourist Gerard Christopher Turner has been found dead at the bottom of a cliff after vanishing from his family to go for a walk down a “rough track”.

The body of Gerard Christopher Turner, an English tourist who had disappeared since Friday , was found lifeless at the foot of a cliff in an inaccessible area in the mountains behind the town.

The fifty-six-year-old was on vacation on the lake with his family and the other afternoon, at 2.30pm, he wanted to take a walk away from the hotel alone towards the woods.

The man made the last call to his wife a couple of hours later, at 4.15pm, when he warned that he would be back later because he had ventured down a rough path. The family did not worry until 6pm when, not seeing him return, they tried several times to call him, but without success because his cell phone was no longer reachable. Fearing the worst they raised the alarm.

In addition to the volunteers and technicians of the 19th Alpine Rescue Delegation, firefighters, civil protection and carabinieri also arrived in Lezzeno.

Over fifty men who beat the mountain all night focusing on the Carvagnana area, between Nesso and Pognana Lario where, by crossing the data of the repeaters, the area where for the last time his mobile phone was reachable was identified.

From yesterday morning in addition to the volunteers, the canine units of the fire brigade were added, brought in from Piedmont, in addition to the 118 helicopter which tried to identify it through the use of a thermoscanner.

The turning point came in the afternoon when the fire brigade technicians from Genoa and La Spezia with their drones identified the body of the man at the foot of an escarpment.
