A 3-year old child unintentionally shot and killed their mother, Cora Lyn Bush, after gaining access to an unsecured gun in Spartanburg County.

On Wednesday, deputies from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office were summoned to the scene of a gunshot. Officials stated that they discovered a child, their mother, and their grandma while they were at the site on South Pine Street.
After being shot, the mother was transported to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save her. She was pronounced dead there. Cora Lyn Bush, who was 33 years old and from Spartanburg, was identified as the person responsible for the death, according to information that was submitted by deputies with the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
“The grandmother was talked to, and what she said about what happened fit with what was found at the scene and how the victim was hurt,” deputies wrote in a Facebook post. “Our investigation is still going on, but everything points to the fact that this happened because a young child got access to an unlocked gun, which accidentally shot the mother, who later died at the hospital.”
It was approximately 7:45 in the morning when the incident was reported.
