The Oxnard Police Department has determined that a report of an active assailant possibly armed with a gun at Oxnard High School on Thursday afternoon, March 2, 2023, was unfounded.

According to a sergeant from the Oxnard PD who was present at the scene, the report was based on someone’s claim of having seen a gun during a fight.

However, after conducting a thorough search, no firearm was found and the sergeant confirmed that everyone was safe.

The lockdown remained in place while police searched the classroom, said Senerey De Los Santos, a spokesperson for Oxnard Union High School District.

Oxnard Union High School District issued the following statement:

Today (March 2, 2023), just after student lunch, Oxnard High School received an anonymous phone call stating there was a weapon inside one of the classrooms. Out of an abundance of caution OHS initiated a level one lockdown as the Oxnard Police Department investigated. Students and staff followed safety procedures when initiating the lockdown and are to be commended for their calm and cooperative response. During the investigation by OPD no weapons were found. The lockdown was lifted after 50 minutes and all students are safe and classes have resumed. Our school safety protocols are in place on a daily basis and we remain diligent and attentive to school safety every day.
